BRIEF

With an annual number of visitors over 90,000 the Bangalore Government Museum is a landmark structure of the city which holds a varied collection of stones, coins and arts from different civilizations in the Indian history. The demographics of the visitors for this space is diverse, hence a simple, clear and user-centered design approach was to be undertaken to establish the signage needs.

SOLUTION

User research was a key part of the design process. To understand the public perception of space, we carried out a mental mapping exercise at number of locations. The results revealed, many people could not orient themselves and had a poor understanding of the area which heavily influenced the concept development and map content categorization for this project.

Considering everything from vandalism, weather and accidental damage in this urban landscape and design principles including legibility, reliability, robustness, maintenance and constraints, a signage system was designed keeping the design language neutral, simple and minimal.
